We were at Poinsettia House the last 2 weeks of April,2017. It is the second time we have rented from Elaine. Both times were wonderful. All the extra information she gives you about the island, the bay, and the wonderful people it is better than a travel book.
Our plan was to do something special every other day, and stay around the bay to see all the beautiful things in the immediate area on the days in between. Needless to say, that did not work out, but we got everything in we wanted to and more. We took a catamaran tour down the west side of the island. Not only did we get to see that part of the island, but we went in the mud baths by the volcano, toured the Botanical Gardens, ate at a local plantation, got back on the boat stopped for snorkeling and were the only couple let off in Marigot Bay; a fun filled day. On another day we climbed Gross Piton. We went there calling it a hike but the last half of the trail makes you understand why they call it a CLIMB! From the top you can see most of the island as well as St Vincent Island. For the Piton climb we had Smalley take us, he is a local taxi driver that caters to Elaine's renters. Not only did he get us there, wait for us, and bring us back home; he also stopped at some great photo shot areas, tells you about the island, and we had him drop us off in Ans Le Ray so we could walk thru town.
It rained all day, both Wednesdays we were there. We found it very, very, very relaxing sitting on Poinsettias patio with a good book and a pair of binoculars. Even with the rain there were lots of ships coming and going in the bay.
We did some of our own cooking. Poinsettia's kitchen is extremely well stocked - everything we needed. We also ate out a bunch. Just down the steps you have Doolittle's happy hour with 2 for 1 drinks from 5-7pm. And a good restaurant, across the bay, is Bayside Restaurant, their chicken club sandwich is very large and good. At Bayside we also found ourselves on several afternoons sitting, watching the boats, and enjoying ice cream and mango smoothies. Then for atmosphere (and price) there is Rainforest Hideaway, their Lion fish was excellent. Other very good restaurants in the bay include Masala Bay, Julietta's, and Bernice's little food shack on the bay.
We like to hike, so one day we hiked up the hill from the taxi stand and discovered a very good bakery at the top of the hill. It's called the Golden Basket, but there is no sign. We stopped there most of the days we were in Marigot.
As for Poinsettia House itself, it is a place made for relaxing, relaxing, relaxing! You have two very good sized bedrooms, each with a private bath. A large screened in area across the front that includes a well stocked kitchen, dining area, and two sitting/living rooms. Between the ceiling fans and the cool breeze we found it was always cool. Our favorite place was the patio. From there you have a gorgeous view of the bay, a place where you can sit and let all the troubles of the world just dissolve, and we did just that.
I hope you can tell, it was probably the most truly, relaxing vacation we have ever taken.
We have been going to Marigot Bay for the past 13 (at least) years. We go every year in February. When we first started going, we stayed for a week. Then it became ten (10) days. Then it evolved into two (2) weeks. Even that is often not enough. We have stayed in all of the properties managed by Elaine. I cannot say enough about Elaine... she and her staff go to great lengths to ensure you have a wonderful vacation. All of the properties are wonderful. Sometimes it is just the two of us and sometimes friends and family have joined us. Poinsettia House is our favorite. The view from there is second to none!!! This house is great for two couples, but we loved having it to ourselves. Hands down our favorite! Flamboyant House is our next go to house. The views there are also amazing. Another perfect location for viewing the spectacular sunsets. This is also a great house for two couples. Orchid House has a great view of the inner bay. It is also a great House for more than one couple. This past February we spent two weeks in Hibiscus Cottage #3. Another great view of the bay and the sunsets. This property has a pool with a view. We keep returning year after year for many reasons. We have done many activities over the years, sailing many times, zip lining both ends of the island, hiking both sides of the bay and general exploring of the island. We have rented cars and explored the island and its many treasures on our own. With that said... I would recommend having Smalley drive and conduct your tours. He is wonderful and a very safe driver. We call this home away from home because after so many years, that is what it is. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!!!!
This was our first visit to St. Lucia and we are so glad we stayed in Marigot Bay and especially at Hibiscus Cottage. First off, Elaine is a pleasure to deal with and answered all of our questions completely before we booked. She was very accommodating. The cottage itself has beautiful view of the ocean and harbour. Our favourite past time was watching the different boats come in and out. Bring your binoculars! We stayed in unit 3 with the open deck doors. It was amazing to have them completely open for the air flow and view. We had the pleasure of meeting both the owner and Elaine while we were there! We highly recommend staying here if you are looking for peace, tranquility, and privacy.
We travelled last year for a two lovely week stay at Poinsettia House in Marigot Bay. Everything about this rental is fabulous. When you walk in, the view and atmosphere take your breath away and you feel so lucky to be vacationing in such a beautiful space. The layout was perfect for two couples with bedrooms with en suite bathrooms at each end as well as two living areas. Between these two ends are the fabulous and well equipped kitchen and dining area with a cooking island that looks out to the bay. The entire house front of the house is open to the view with no windows, only screening. Then there is a large partially covered deck with a wonderful view of the bay!Elaine is a pleasure to rent from, replying quickly to questions and providing guests with great details about the house, Marigot Bay and St. Lucia. She recommended a local fisherman who we contacted and he caught us a delicious red snapper. We also took a taxi into the Castries market and bought lots of fresh vegetables and fruit to allow us to cook many meals. The housekeeper, Luciana, can be engaged to cook a Lucian meal for you… we did this twice and were so pleased with the meals and her engaging personality. We loved the ferry trip over to town and our daily swims in the Caribbean. Our tours around the island were so interesting, we went to the Pitons and Anse Cochon for swimming and snorkeling. St. Lucia is such a beautiful island! We highly recommend this rental. Book it early though, to get the dates you want. We booked almost a year in advance to get the two weeks in March that we stayed. It was well worth waiting for!! We have fond memories of our adventure and our time at Poinsettia House!
My husband and I have been going to beautiful Marigot Bay every February, for the last 15 or so years. Initially we only vacationed for one week each year. After meeting Elaine and staying in the properties she manages, it became two weeks. We have had the pleasure of dealing with Elaine for the majority of those years. She is always so wonderful and accommodating. Over the years, we have stayed in each of the properties. Some years, we are joined by friends and some years it is just the two of us. I will give my thoughts on each property, beginning with my favorite.POINSETTIA HOUSE--This house is second to none! Poinsettia is a lovely 2 bedroom/ 2 bathroom villa, located right on the point. The views of the Bay are unobstructed. Whether you are in the house, or sitting out on the porch, you can have eyes on the water. The patio/porch is, in our opinion, the most perfect location to see the sunsets. Poinsettia is our preferred villa.FLAMBOYANT HOUSE--Flamboyant is located at the top of the hill. This villa is a 2 bedroom/ 2 bathroom villa. We have shared it with another couple several times. It is vey spacious and has a large screened porch. The outside porch is another great location for viewing the sunsets. We have also stayed in this villa, just the two of us.ORCHID HOUSE--Orchid was our first experience staying with Marigot Bay Villas. This 2 bedroom/ 2 bathroom villa has a very nice view of the inner Bay. The inner Bay is where all the big yachts stay when in port. During our stay at Orchid is when we personally met Elaine and quickly knew she was someone special. I can't say enough good about her.HIBISCUS COTTAGE--Hibiscus includes four cottages. This past February, my husband and I stayed in #3. This was a very comfortable, upper level 1 bedroom/ 1 bathroom unit. We enjoyed keeping the French doors open all day long. We enjoyed the breeze blowing through the unit. We spent a great delal of time sitting on the porch or beside the pool reading. This unit had a wonder sunset view.Every year we know we are in good hands from start to finish. Elaine has notebooks in each property, with information pertaining to the individual Villas, as well as what to do and where to eat on the island. She makes it so easy. No matter your interests, active or just relaxing... this place can mee your needs.
We stayed at Pinsettia House October 2015. It was absolutely wonderful. The views are spectacular. The amenities perfect. Staying there again October 2017. Can't waitMarlene JCanada
In January 2017, my husband and I rendez-voused with couple of old friends in St Lucia. I had found Flamboyant VIlla on the web and was a little nervous about what we would find. I was a hero. Everyone had their own private space at opposite ends of the house - everything about the area and the villa was marvellous. Elaine not only set us up with a driver and a chef (who cooked the most amazing meal of our trip in our villa), she invited us down for wine on her Poinsettia patio and shared some of the local news and events. Poinsettia's view was even more spectacular. When we weren't out and about exploring the island, we sat on the deck reading and watching the abundant birdlife.
Several years ago my husband and I stayed at Marigot Bay Villas (in a small cottage that is no longer available for rental). The views of the bay from our windows and patio were stunning - it was so relaxing to just sit and watch the boats come and go. We hire Smiley to take us on a day trip of the island and he was great. Elaine was wonderful to work with and she invited us to Poinsettia House one day to visit. The views from there are even better!
This March 2017 was our second stay at the house, two weeks each time. We have loved both holidays, the house, the situation, the bay and Elaine's great help. many other reviews mention the attractions of the Island and bay but suffice to say that it is really a lovely, calm and enjoyable place to visit and stay. The house has all we need to enjoy self catering and, of course, there are always the restaurants in the Bay itself. We had a slight problem with one or two mosquitos so a net over the bed might be useful to avoid sprays.
Well the first clue that we love Poinsetta house is that we have been there the past 5 years and will be going again in 2018.As the description says, it is the most perfect view in the bay and we think the most perfect house. Open to the air with just screens , no AC which we love. No bugs or rain/wind ever blowing in. When we come home it is an adjustment to have glass in our windows ! The house is perfect for two couples, space between the roomy bedrooms and baths. Luciana keeps it sparkling clean and she'll cook a beautiful meal. Its perfectly decorated for the tropics and very well supplied with most everything you need as far as cooking etc. A library of books, games, maps, information and the like. We have been to the other rentals on this site but not stayed. They are also very special and well maintained. All within a little walk on the same hillside. The grounds of the villas are emaculate, the little tram up the hill is welcome after a long day of snorkeling or hiking. But the steps and paths are well maintained too. I counted 120 steps :)Other than just hanging out around the cozy little bay watching the boats come and go we suggest having Smalley take you to the Tet Paul Nature Trail, an easy hike with spectacular views of the Pitons. He is an excellent driver and guide. We have also very much enjoyed, ( 3 times) ..a tour with Dive Fair Helen..the owner Andre as our guide. He is so proud of his island and a wealth of knowledge. You can sign up for that at the dive shop just at the bottom of the pathway steps near Doolittles. A walk around Castries and its market is also fun. There are four or five very good restaurants around the bay.We feel welcome each year we go back, and have gotten to know a few of the locals like Lenny who sells local jewelry, O'Neil carves the hummingbird feeders and Bravo runs the ferry. Its about a 1 minute trip to take from the Marina across to get to the villas. We love that there are no streets and cars on that side. We feel very safe. The owner of Poinsetta house and manager of the other 3 rentals is Elaine. She is most organized and helpful. When you've reserved she will want your travel arrangements so she can arrange to have Smalley at the airport to meet you.As you can tell, we highly recommend any of the villas on this site.
